Duodenum removal decreased gastric inhibitory peptide (GIP) and increased glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) in nondiabetic patients. This surgery led to reduced insulin secretion and increased glucagon, suggesting a link between hypoinsulinemia and glucagon release.
