Insights
Both light-emitting diode (LED) phototherapy and laser acupuncture offer safe and effective non-invasive treatments for children with allergic rhinitis, showing significant symptom improvement over one year.
Area of Science:
- Pediatrics
- Otolaryngology
- Complementary and Alternative Medicine
Background:
- Allergic rhinitis significantly impacts children's quality of life.
- Current treatments for pediatric allergic rhinitis vary in efficacy and side effect profiles.
- Exploring novel, non-invasive therapeutic options is crucial.
Purpose of the Study:
- To compare the therapeutic outcomes of LED phototherapy versus laser acupuncture in pediatric patients with perennial allergic rhinitis.
- To evaluate the safety and efficacy of these two treatment modalities.
Main Methods:
- A randomized controlled trial involving 40 children (ages 7-18) diagnosed with perennial allergic rhinitis.
- Participants were allocated to either LED phototherapy or laser acupuncture groups.
- A one-year follow-up period was implemented to assess treatment effectiveness.
Main Results:
- Both LED phototherapy and laser acupuncture groups demonstrated significant improvements in allergic rhinitis symptom severity scores.
- Symptom reduction was observed both during and at the conclusion of the one-year follow-up period.
- No significant adverse events were reported, indicating a high safety profile for both interventions.
Conclusions:
- LED phototherapy and laser acupuncture are equally safe, reliable, and non-invasive treatment options for pediatric allergic rhinitis.
- Both methods proved successful in managing symptoms and improving patient outcomes.
- These findings support the integration of phototherapy and laser acupuncture into the management of childhood allergic rhinitis.
Objective:
The objective of this study was to compare the outcomes of LED phototherapy and laser acupuncture treatment on allergic rhinitis in children.
Methods:
40 patients with perennial allergic rhinitis were divided randomly into two groups. Patient's ages ranged from 7 to 18 years. One group was subjected to LED phototherapy and the other group was managed by laser acupuncture .The patients were followed-up for 1 year.
Results:
There was a significant improvement in the severity score symptoms in both groups through and by the end of the follow up period.
Conclusion:
This led to the conclusion that both techniques are equally safe, reliable, non invasive and successful.
