Options and outcome for reconstruction after extended left hemicolectomy.

Background:

• Extended left colectomy necessitates tension-free anastomosis to prevent leakage when the transverse colon is short.
• Colonic rotation techniques, including right colonic transposition (RCT) and complete intestinal derotation (CID), are employed to achieve this.

Purpose of the Study:

• To compare the safety and efficacy of right colonic transposition (RCT) versus complete intestinal derotation (CID) following extended left colectomy.

• A retrospective review of 39 patients undergoing extended left colectomy between 2001 and 2011.
• Patients underwent either RCT (n=29) or CID (n=10).
