Galectin-9 functionally impairs natural killer cells in humans and mice

Galectin-9 negatively impacts natural killer (NK) cell function, reducing their ability to kill targets and produce cytokines like interferon-gamma (IFN-γ). This immune modulation is observed in chronic infections and is independent of Tim-3.
