Hip resurfacing arthroplasty offers excellent short-term functional outcomes for osteoarthritis patients. Patient-reported measures like the HOOS questionnaire confirm significant pain relief and improved mobility after the procedure.

  • The Hip Disability and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score (HOOS) questionnaire was utilized to measure patient-reported functional outcomes.
  • Data on pain, range of motion, subjective improvement, and complications were systematically collected.
  • Main Results:

    • A significant majority of patients (86.9%) reported being pain-free post-surgery.
    • Marked improvements in range of motion and subjective patient improvement (95%) were observed.
    • The mean HOOS score was 87.5 for 149 patients, indicating good functional status. Complications occurred in 6% of patients, with deep infections being the most common (3.4%).

    Conclusions:

    • Short-term follow-up after hip resurfacing arthroplasty demonstrates favorable clinical and patient-reported functional outcomes.
    • Patient-reported outcome instruments provide reliable and valuable insights into the patient experience following hip surgery.
    • Hip resurfacing appears to be an effective option for improving function and quality of life in patients with hip osteoarthritis.
