Background:

Accurate analysis of blood vessel features is crucial for diagnosing and monitoring diseases.
Existing methods for vessel landmark detection and feature measurement have limitations.

Purpose of the Study:

To develop a novel and robust method for detecting vessel landmarks (bifurcations, crossovers) and measuring vessel features (orientation, diameter, bifurcation angle).
To improve the accuracy and efficiency of automated blood vessel analysis for computer-aided diagnosis.

Main Methods:

A simple and efficient local vessel pattern operator was developed.
The method was applied to the DRIVE, STARE, and ARIA databases.
Performance was compared against state-of-the-art approaches.

Main Results:

The proposed method demonstrated high accuracy in detecting vessel landmarks.
Accurate estimation of various vessel features, including orientation, diameter, and bifurcation angle, was achieved.
The method outperformed existing approaches on benchmark datasets.

Conclusions:

The novel local vessel pattern operator provides a robust and accurate solution for blood vessel analysis.
This method has significant potential for enhancing computer-aided diagnosis and disease monitoring systems.
