Implementing recommendations for introductory biology by writing a new textbook

A redesigned introductory biology course using the Integrating Concepts in Biology (ICB) textbook improved students' data interpretation and critical thinking skills. Students using ICB showed enhanced metacognition and disciplinary perceptions without sacrificing content knowledge.
