The Clostridium difficile problem: a South African tertiary institution's prospective perspective

Clostridium difficile-associated disease (CDAD) incidence in South Africa is lower than in Western countries. Antibiotic use is a key risk factor for hospital-acquired CDAD, while community-acquired CDAD is linked to inflammatory bowel disease.
