Summary

Maxillofacial surgeons use facial skeleton osteotomies for accessing challenging infratemporal tumors. These surgical approaches, including transmaxillary, transzygomatic, and transmandibular routes, improve exposure and reduce patient morbidity.

Background:

Tumors in the infratemporal region pose significant surgical access challenges.
Traditional surgical methods often struggle with deep-seated or inaccessible head and neck tumors.

Observation:

Two case reports detail the surgical management of infratemporal tumors.
Case 1: A 45-year-old female with a schwannoma in the right infratemporal region extending into the middle cranial fossa.
Case 2: A 26-year-old male with a rare tumor (Rosai-Dorfman disease) presenting with headache and diplopia.

Findings:

Surgical access was achieved through combined approaches: temporal craniotomy, transmandibular, and transzygomatic osteotomies for the schwannoma.
The Rosai-Dorfman disease was excised via the zygomatic arch and lateral orbital wall.
