Background:

  • Proliferative fasciitis is a rare benign soft tissue lesion.
  • Distinguishing it from pediatric neoplasms is crucial.

Observation:

  • A 7-year-old child presented with forearm proliferative fasciitis.
  • The lesion showed spindle cells, ganglionlike cells, and collagenous/myxoid areas.

Findings:

  • Cells contained intracytoplasmic collagen inclusions.
  • Cytoplasmic staining for vimentin was positive.
  • Ultrastructural analysis revealed myofibroblast features.

Implications:

  • This is the second reported pediatric case of proliferative fasciitis.
  • Accurate diagnosis is vital to avoid misclassification as a childhood neoplasm.
