People diagnosed with schizophrenia show a reduced risk of developing urinary calculi. This inverse association was particularly notable in males and older individuals, suggesting a protective effect.

  • 53,965 urinary calculi cases (2002-2008) and 269,825 matched controls.
  • Conditional logistic regression analyzed prior schizophrenia diagnosis.

  • 1.0% of subjects had a prior schizophrenia diagnosis.
  • Schizophrenia was associated with a 30% decreased risk of urinary calculi.
