This case study highlights a rare intrapericardial pheochromocytoma. Iodine-131 metaiodobenzylguanidine scintigraphy effectively located this unusual tumor, enabling successful surgical removal.

  • Intrapericardial location of pheochromocytoma is exceptionally rare, posing diagnostic and surgical challenges.

Observation:

  • A patient presented with symptoms suggestive of a pheochromocytoma.
  • Diagnostic imaging revealed a tumor within the pericardial sac.

Findings:

  • 131I-labeled metaiodobenzylguanidine (MIBG) scintigraphy proved instrumental in precisely localizing the intrapericardial pheochromocytoma.
  • Surgical resection of the tumor was successfully performed.

Implications:

  • This case underscores the utility of MIBG scintigraphy in diagnosing rare ectopic pheochromocytomas.
