Background:

General practitioners (GPs) acknowledge making errors.
A model for a Committee of Investigation of Incidents in General Practice was developed.
The committee aims to analyze incidents and prevent future occurrences.

Purpose of the Study:

To assess GP support for establishing a Committee of Investigation of Incidents in General Practice.
To evaluate the perceived impact of such a committee on general practice status and incident prevention.

Main Methods:

Expert interviews (n=20) and Delphi procedure with GPs (n=20).
A survey was conducted among 600 general practitioners.
Analysis of survey data to gauge opinions on the proposed committee.

Main Results:

83% of surveyed GPs believe the committee should be established.
69% expect improved status for general practice.
71% anticipate a significant contribution to incident prevention.

Conclusions:

General practitioners strongly advocate for the creation of a Committee of Investigation of Incidents in General Practice.
The committee is seen as a vital tool for enhancing patient safety and professional standards.
