Breast cancer during pregnancy is rare. Advanced stage and lymph node involvement, not age, predict worse outcomes and mortality in these young patients.

- A retrospective analysis of 16 pregnant patients with breast cancer revealed predominantly advanced stage (III, 81.2%) and invasive ductal carcinoma (87.5%). Chemotherapy during the second or third trimester showed no severe adverse effects. Recurrence occurred at a mean of 18.8 months, with a 31.3% mortality rate in those under 35.
Impact:
- Advanced stage and lymph node positivity are stronger predictors of relapse and mortality than age in young pregnant women with breast cancer.
- This study informs treatment strategies and prognostic assessments for this unique patient population.
