  • Class I restorations were fabricated using silorane-based systems with either the original P90 primer or simplified adhesives (two-step or one-step).
  • Bond strength to dentin was evaluated.
  • Confocal microscopy (with fluorophore) and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) with silver nitrate staining were used for interface and nanoleakage analysis. X-ray diffraction (XRD) characterized chemical interactions.

Main Results:

  • Failure modes and nanoleakage patterns differed across the tested adhesive groups.
  • Silorane-containing systems exhibited characteristic micromorphology and increased nanoleakage.
  • Replacing the P90 primer with simplified adhesives resulted in comparable dentin bonding to unmodified silorane systems, but one dedicated adhesive showed immediate degradation.

Conclusions:

  • Simplified adhesive systems can successfully replace the P90 primer, achieving comparable dentin bonding in silorane-based restorations.
  • The observed early degradation of a specific simplified adhesive warrants further investigation regarding its long-term clinical performance and restoration longevity.
  • Understanding interfacial properties and nanoleakage is essential for predicting the durability of dental adhesive systems.
