Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the sacroiliac joint (SIJ) and thoracic spine aids in diagnosing active ankylosing spondylitis (AAS). Adding thoracic spine MRI improves diagnostic sensitivity in patients with probable AS lacking SIJ inflammation.
