Summary

Wii Fit aerobic exercises can cause serious injuries. A patient developed strangulated bowel due to a paraumbilical hernia after using the popular fitness game, requiring surgery.

Background:

The Nintendo Wii Fit is a widely adopted interactive video game promoting physical activity.
While generally associated with minor musculoskeletal injuries, serious complications are rarely reported.
Pre-existing hernias may pose an undiagnosed risk during strenuous physical activity.

Observation:

A patient engaged in aerobic exercises on the Wii Fit.
Following the exercise session, the patient presented with symptoms of acute abdominal distress.

Findings:

The patient was diagnosed with an acute strangulation of a pre-existing asymptomatic paraumbilical hernia.
The complication necessitated an emergency laparotomy and small bowel resection due to bowel infarction.
