    Area of Science:

    • Psychology
    • Addiction Medicine
    • Clinical Psychology

    Background:

    • Alcoholism is a significant public health issue.
    • Treatment programs aim to improve cognitive and personal growth in patients.
    • Field independence and self-actualization are key psychological constructs relevant to recovery.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To evaluate the impact of a 6-week treatment program on alcoholic patients.
    • To compare the effectiveness of different therapeutic modalities: drug-assisted individual therapy, individual therapy, and milieu therapy.
    • To explore potential causal factors and treatment implications.

    Main Methods:

    • A 6-week treatment program was implemented for alcoholic patients.
    • Patients were divided into three groups receiving different therapies.
    • Field independence and self-actualization were measured before and after treatment.

    Main Results:

    • Significant increases in field independence were observed post-treatment.
    • Significant increases in self-actualization were observed post-treatment.
    • No significant differences in outcomes were found between the three therapy groups.

    Conclusions:

    • A 6-week treatment program is effective in enhancing field independence and self-actualization in alcoholic patients.
    • The specific type of therapy (drug-assisted individual, individual, or milieu) did not significantly alter these improvements.
    • Findings suggest focusing on core treatment components rather than modality differences for these specific outcomes.
