Major hemorrhage remains a frequent complication of contemporary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), regardless of how it is defined. Not only do hemorrhagic complications increase hospital costs, but major hemorrhage is highly predictive of 30-day and 1-year mortality. Use of bivalirudin significantly reduces hemorrhagic complication in PCI.
