- Elevated CRP levels at age 1 year were associated with a significantly decreased risk of allergic sensitization by age 4.5 years (aOR 0.48, p=0.014).
- No significant association was found between CRP levels and the risk of developing atopic dermatitis or asthma.
Conclusions:
- Increased early-life CRP levels are associated with reduced allergic sensitization later in life.
- These findings suggest that an impaired inflammatory response may predispose individuals to IgE sensitization, challenging aspects of the hygiene hypothesis.
