The OnControl bone marrow biopsy system (OBM) offers a feasible and safe method for CT-fluoroscopy guided bone biopsy, significantly reducing procedure time and radiation exposure compared to manual Jamshidi needles.

Computed Tomography and Optical Imaging of Osteogenesis-angiogenesis Coupling to Assess Integration of Cranial Bone Autografts and Allografts

  • Technical success achieved in 11 out of 12 cases, with adequate specimens for histopathology.
  • Significant reduction in biopsy time (13 ± 6 min to 6 ± 4 min) and radiation dose (169 ± 87 to 111 ± 54 mGy × cm) compared to the Jamshidi Needle.
  • Interventional radiologists reported confidence in OBM performance, particularly in sclerotic or osteoblastic lesions.

Conclusions:

  • The OBM system is a safe and effective tool for CT-fluoroscopy guided bone biopsy.
  • Utilizing the OBM system leads to significantly reduced intervention time and radiation exposure compared to the Jamshidi Needle approach.
