Area of Science:

  • Pediatric Dermatology
  • Histopathology
  • Sweat Gland Physiology

Background:

  • Miliaria profunda is a heat-induced sweat gland occlusion disorder.
  • It typically presents as deep-seated papules or nodules.

Observation:

  • A 4-month-old infant presented with rapidly enlarging, white plaques.
  • Lesions were located at sites of occlusive tape application, often over venous or arterial punctures.

Findings:

  • Microscopic examination revealed sweat duct occlusion and extravasation of sweat into the dermis.
  • These findings are consistent with miliaria profunda.

Implications:

  • This case describes a previously unrecognized variant of miliaria profunda.
  • The term "giant centrifugal miliaria profunda" is proposed for this distinct clinical entity.
