Abstract:
A survey on the occurrence of aflatoxin M1 was carried out in the province of Bari (Italy) on a total of 106 samples of raw milk from local farms, commercially heattreated milk, and dried milk. About 72% of the samples were contaminated with aflatoxin M1 within the concentration range 4-280ng/Kg. The incidence of aflatoxin M1 was much higher in commercial milk (91%) than in farm milk (26%), and all the dried milk samples contained aflatoxin Ml (10 to 280ng per Kg of powder milk).
