The difference of lower urinary tract symptoms between sympathetic hyperactive and hypoactive men

Heart rate variability (HRV) may indicate autonomic nervous system imbalances in men with lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS). Sympathetic hypoactivity in LUTS patients correlated with increased urinary frequency and storage issues.

- No significant differences in age, prostate-specific antigen (PSA), or prostate volume were found between LUTS groups.
- Significant differences were observed in the International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS) questionnaires.
- Specifically, LUTS patients with sympathetic hypoactivity reported higher scores for urinary frequency (Q2) and storage symptoms ([Q2+Q4+Q7]/3).
