  • Fifteen patients undergoing shoulder arthroplasty and fifteen matched controls participated.
  • Analyses included measures of central tendency, variance, sample entropy, asymmetry, and time distribution of activity intensity.

    • Significant differences in central tendency and variance were observed between dominant and non-dominant limbs in both groups for both arms.
    • Differences in entropy were found in the lower arm for both groups and the upper arm for patients.
    • Between-group differences were noted in asymmetry index, maximum activity level of the lower arm, and time distribution of activity intensity in the upper arm.

    Conclusions:

    • Multiple analysis methods applied to activity monitor data yield unique and complementary information.
    • Novel approaches, such as evaluating time distribution of activity intensity, provide valuable insights into patient function.
    • These findings support the use of diverse analytical techniques for comprehensive functional assessment in orthopedic populations.
