Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the effectiveness of partner-based and planning-based interventions in reducing dietary fat intake.
  • To assess the impact of these interventions over a 6-month period.
  • To explore psychosocial mediators influencing dietary changes.

Main Methods:

  • A randomized controlled trial with 427 participants was conducted.
  • Participants were assigned to four groups: partner + implementation intentions, partner-only, implementation intentions, or control.
  • Dietary fat intake, psychosocial factors, weight, and waist size were measured at baseline and at 1, 3, and 6 months.

Main Results:

  • All intervention groups showed greater reductions in fat intake compared to the control group at 3 months.
  • Partner-based groups improved the ratio of healthy to unhealthy fats and reduced waist size at 3 and 6 months.
  • Effects were mediated by social influence, partner support, and enjoyment, though effects were generally small.

  • Partner-based interventions demonstrated some positive effects on dietary outcomes and waist size.
