  • Created four IQ-matched strata comparing 89 healthy controls (HC) and 77 SZ patients.
  • Administered the MATRICS Consensus Cognitive Battery (MCCB) to assess cognitive performance within each stratum.
  • Controlled for IQ and reading ability scores to isolate cognitive deficits.

  • SZ patients demonstrated greater neuropsychological impairment than expected based on IQ and reading scores alone.
  • Cognitive deficits were not uniform, with processing speed and social cognition domains showing more pronounced impairment.
  • The magnitude of this generalized neuropsychological impairment was consistent across patients, irrespective of their IQ level.
