Abstract:
Atypical antipsychotic drugs are superior to typical antipsychotic drugs in having a lower incidence of extrapyramidal side-effects, so atypical antipsychotic drugs have become the mainstream in the clinic. However, there is growing interest in the effects of antipsychotic treatment on other serious side-effects such as metabolic abnormalities, sexual function and QT prolongation. There is a need for biomarkers that can help in early identification of patients who are at risk for these serious side-effects. Hence, we have conducted psychopharmacological studies using OGTT, measurement of adipokines, holter ECG and genetic methods, aiming to identify key biomarkers to drive personalized medicine and new treatment development.
