[Usefulness of a new prognostic index for patients with myocardial infarction]
1II Kliniki Kardiologii Centrum Medycznego Kształcenia Podyplomowego, Warszawie.
Insights
A new prognostic indicator for myocardial infarction patients proves highly effective in the Polish population, enabling better identification of high-risk individuals and improved survival rates compared to Belgian cohorts. This simple tool offers significant prognostic value.
Area of Science:
- Cardiology
- Clinical Medicine
- Medical Prognosis
Context:
- Analysis of a prognostic indicator for myocardial infarction (MI) patients treated between 1986-1988.
- Evaluation of the indicator's utility within the Polish population.
- Comparison with outcomes reported for Belgian patients.
Purpose:
- To assess the usefulness of a previously proposed prognostic indicator in a Polish patient cohort.
- To determine if the indicator allows for more precise identification of high-risk MI patients.
- To compare the prognostic value in Polish versus Belgian populations.
Summary:
- The study evaluated a 1988 prognostic indicator in Polish myocardial infarction patients.
- The indicator facilitated more accurate isolation of high-risk patients during hospitalization compared to Belgian data.
- Patients with a better prognosis in the Polish group exhibited a lower risk of death than their Belgian counterparts.
Impact:
- Highlights the indicator's simplicity and high prognostic value for MI patients.
- Demonstrates its utility in identifying high-risk individuals in the Polish population.
- Suggests potential for evaluating diverse therapeutic strategies in cardiology.
Abstract:
The usefulness was analysed of the prognostic indicator proposed by Belgian authors in 1988 (1) in patients with myocardial infarction treated in a cardiology department in the years 1986-1988. It was noted that in the Polish population this indicator make possible a more precise isolation of high-risk patients during hospitalization as compared to the Belgian patients. In the groups with better prognosis the risk of death was lower than in the Belgian patients. In the conclusions the simplicity of this new indicator, its high prognostic value and its usefulness for the evaluation of various therapeutic methods are stressed.
