Morphine abstinence causes vasoconstriction, but this study found no evidence of increased peripheral artery response to nerve stimulation or noradrenaline in dependent rats. Smooth muscle sensitivity to adrenergic stimulation was actually reduced, refuting a peripheral vascular origin.
