Patient satisfaction was measured using the EVAN-G questionnaire.

Main Results:

147 patients were included between May 2011 and October 2012.
86% (126 patients) completed the outpatient procedure without readmission.
Average length of stay was 10.5 hours, with an average satisfaction score of 83/100.

Conclusions:

Implementing an ambulatory emergency surgery unit is achievable with adequate staff training.
This model of care is compatible with safe patient outcomes and high satisfaction.
Emergency outpatient surgery should be considered a viable option within emergency care protocols.
