Area of Science:

  • Medical simulation
  • Emergency medicine training
  • Moulage techniques

Background:

  • Moulage is essential for creating realistic training scenarios.
  • Simulated patients enhance participant immersion and learning.
  • Creating convincing injuries like burns can be challenging.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To present accessible techniques for creating simulated burns and blisters.
  • To provide guidance on using readily available materials for moulage.
  • To improve the realism of medical simulation mannequins.

Main Methods:

  • Utilizing standard makeup products for skin discoloration and texture.
  • Employing toilet paper and adhesive to construct simulated blisters.
  • Layering materials to achieve depth and visual accuracy for burn effects.

Main Results:

  • Demonstrated effectiveness of makeup and toilet paper in creating realistic burn and blister effects.
  • Achieved visually convincing results on mannequins.
  • Provided a cost-effective and practical moulage solution.

Conclusions:

  • Simple, accessible materials can produce high-fidelity moulage for burns.
  • These techniques enhance the realism and effectiveness of medical simulation.
  • Moulage artists can readily implement these methods to improve training outcomes.
