Inflammatory monocytes regulate pathologic responses to commensals during acute gastrointestinal infection

Inflammatory monocytes control gut inflammation during infection by producing prostaglandin E2 (PGE2). This lipid mediator inhibits damaging neutrophil responses, protecting the gut from excessive inflammation and pathology.
