Background:

  • No current online resources exist for pediatric rheumatology training.
  • A new interactive web-based module, POINTER, is proposed to address this gap.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To assess the educational needs of pediatric residents regarding rheumatology.
  • To evaluate resident interest in and desired features for an online rheumatology teaching module.

Main Methods:

  • A survey was distributed to 60 pediatric residents at The Hospital for Sick Children.
  • The survey assessed prior use of online modules, perceived utility, and preferred technologies for a rheumatology module.

Main Results:

  • A 78.3% response rate (47 residents) was achieved.
  • 91% of residents believed an interactive website would improve learning.
  • Residents prioritized features like graphics, animation, interactivity, pictures, videos, and links to research.

Conclusions:

  • Pediatric residents are receptive to an interactive web-based rheumatology teaching module.
  • Case-based modules and multimedia (graphics, video, interactive elements) are preferred for learning musculoskeletal examination.
