Background:

  • Behavioral variant of frontotemporal dementia (bvFTD) is a neurodegenerative disorder characterized by profound changes in behavior and personality.
  • Understanding the neural underpinnings of bvFTD is crucial for diagnosis and treatment development.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate disruptions in brain functional network connectivity in patients with bvFTD.
  • To explore the relationship between altered network properties and cognitive deficits in bvFTD.

Main Methods:

  • Resting-state functional MRI data from 18 bvFTD patients and 50 healthy controls were analyzed using graph theoretical analysis.
  • Functional connectivity was estimated between 90 brain regions, and network properties were correlated with cognitive variables.

Main Results:

  • bvFTD patients exhibited significantly disrupted global functional brain network organization, including reduced network degree, clustering coefficient, and global efficiency.
