Drug Concentrations: Measurements01:23

Drug Concentrations: Measurements

Drug concentration is the quantity of a drug present in a biological sample. Measuring drug amounts in biological samples allows the clinician to understand how a drug is absorbed, distributed, metabolized, and excreted. Samples can be obtained through invasive or non-invasive methods. Invasive techniques involve surgical or parenteral interventions to gather blood, cerebrospinal fluid, or tissue biopsy. Conversely, non-invasive approaches provide samples like urine, feces, and saliva.

Summary
This summary is machine-generated.

Postmortem redistribution increases methamphetamine and amphetamine blood concentrations by approximately 1.5 times. This phenomenon, known as postmortem redistribution, is crucial for accurate toxicological analysis in forensic investigations.

  • Accurate quantification of drugs in postmortem samples is essential for forensic investigations.
  • Understanding drug distribution and redistribution phenomena is critical for interpreting toxicological findings.
  • Methamphetamine and its metabolite, amphetamine, are frequently encountered in forensic casework.
