Summary

Computed tomographic (CT) scans can predict missed aneurysms in subarachnoid hemorrhage patients. Thick subarachnoid blood on CT scans increases the likelihood of detecting an aneurysm on repeat angiography.

Background:

  • Subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) diagnosis often involves angiography.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the accuracy of CT scans in identifying patients with angiographically missed aneurysms after subarachnoid hemorrhage.
  • To determine if CT findings can predict the presence of aneurysms not detected by initial angiography.

    • Repeat angiographic studies are recommended when CT scans show evidence of subarachnoid blood.
    • Specific CT patterns, like blood in the basal frontal interhemispheric fissure, strongly suggest anterior communicating artery aneurysms.
