Immunoprecipitation

Immunoprecipitation, or IP, is a widely used technique that employs protein-antibody interactions to isolate proteins or protein complexes in their native state for studying protein-protein interactions, quaternary structures, or supramolecular complexes. Purpose of the Study:

  • To identify patterns and predictors of cryoprecipitate use in major trauma.
  • To determine if cryoprecipitate transfusion is associated with improved in-hospital survival.

Main Methods:

  • Secondary analysis of 1,238 patients from the PROMMTT study.
  • Defined one dose of cryoprecipitate as 10 units.
  • Used logistic regression and time-dependent Cox models to analyze cryoprecipitate use and mortality.

Main Results:

  • Cryoprecipitate use varied significantly by trauma center (7%–82%).
  • Median cryoprecipitate infusion was 10 units within 24 hours; median time to first unit was 2.7 hours.
