Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate if the ovulation sequence of oocytes affects embryonic development and uterine secretions in gilts by Day 12.
  • To determine if oocytes from later-ovulating follicles lead to less developed embryos.

Main Methods:

  • Oocytes from later-ovulating follicles were recovered, incubated, and returned to the donor's oviduct.
  • Day 4 embryos (lesser vs. more developed) were transferred to ligated uterine horns of recipient gilts.
  • Uterine flushings were analyzed for estradiol, total protein, acid phosphatase, calcium, and glycoproteins using 2D-PAGE.
