Gastrointestinal complications after mitral valve surgery are rare but serious. Cardiogenic shock, chronic renal insufficiency, and vasopressor use significantly increase risk, impacting patient survival.

- Multivariate analysis confirmed cardiogenic shock (OR 8.1), CRI (OR 8.1), and vasopressor use (OR 6.5) as significant independent predictors of GI complications.
Implications:
- GI complications post-mitral valve surgery are infrequent but associated with significantly lower survival rates.
- Pre-operative hemodynamic instability, indicated by cardiogenic shock or vasopressor requirement, is a critical predictor of GI complications.
- Increased vigilance and proactive management strategies are warranted for patients with these risk factors undergoing mitral valve surgery.
