Background:

  • "Silver Alert" media-alert policies have been rapidly established in over half of US states to ensure the safety and autonomy of older adults cost-effectively.
  • Despite rapid legislative adoption, empirical research on the geographic implementation and effectiveness of these policies is lacking.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To analyze the implementation of Silver Alert policies across geographic areas in North Carolina.
  • To investigate factors associated with Silver Alert activation rates.

Main Methods:

  • Analysis of 587 Silver Alerts activated in North Carolina between 2008 and 2010.
  • Application of zero-inflated negative binomial regression and exploratory spatial analyses.
