Summary

Human transitional carcinoma cells (HCV-29T) exhibit altered proteoglycan synthesis compared to normal epithelial cells. These changes, particularly in heparan sulfate composition and charge density, may contribute to increased cancer cell invasiveness.

Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate and compare the proteoglycan synthesis between normal human transitional epithelial cells and a transitional carcinoma cell line (HCV-29T).
  • To identify specific differences in proteoglycan structure, composition, and charge density that may correlate with the invasive phenotype of carcinoma cells.

    • The observed undersulfation and compositional changes in proteoglycans of HCV-29T cells may be key factors contributing to their enhanced invasive behavior.
