  • Eight male participants (aged 20-31) performed a drop jumping exercise protocol.
  • Post-exercise, participants either stood or underwent gravity inversion for 20 minutes.
  • Stature changes (spinal shrinkage) were measured for 40 minutes using a stadiometer.

  • The drop jumping regimen induced significant spinal shrinkage (mean 1.68-1.81 mm).
  • Gravity inversion increased stature by 5.18 mm, while standing increased it by 0.76 mm (P < 0.01).
  • Following inversion, a rapid stature loss of 4.07 mm occurred during standing, with no significant difference in shrinkage between groups after 30 minutes.

Conclusions:

  • Gravity inversion temporarily increases stature following exercise-induced spinal shrinkage.
  • The stature-increasing effects of gravity inversion are short-lived, with significant rebound occurring during subsequent standing.
