Summary

Gollop-Wolfgang syndrome, a rare condition, was treated with limb-sparing surgery instead of amputation. This innovative approach involved fibular tibialization, enabling the child to walk with good functional outcomes.

Background:

  • Gollop-Wolfgang syndrome is a rare congenital disorder characterized by a Y-shaped femur and complete tibial agenesis.
  • Standard treatment for absent extensor apparatus often involves knee disarticulation.
  • Parental refusal of amputation necessitated an alternative therapeutic strategy.

Observation:

  • The patient presented with the classical features of Gollop-Wolfgang syndrome.
  • The parents opted against the recommended amputation for their child.
  • An alternative surgical intervention was pursued to facilitate ambulation.

Findings:

  • Surgical tibialization of the fibula was performed.
  • The foot was repositioned under the fibula.
