Adjuvant chemotherapy and scar irradiation in breast cancer

Twenty-three consecutive premenopausal patients with breast cancer who had four or more positive axillary nodes were treated with six cycles of CMFP followed by irradiation limited to the mastectomy scar (CT-SRT). The relapse-free survival (RFS) rate was compared with a group of 15 patients who were treated with chemotherapy alone (CT). Following an average follow-up of 30 months, the relapse rates for the CT-SRT and CT groups were 30.4% vs. 73.2%, respectively (P less than 0.05).
