Summary

This study examines the use of rib cartilage in septorhinoplasty, a surgical procedure to reconstruct the nose and nasal passages. The authors analyzed 54 patients who underwent primary and revision surgeries using rib cartilage grafts. They found that rib cartilage is particularly effective in major nasal reconstructions and revision surgeries where large amounts of tissue are needed. Compared to other graft sources, rib cartilage had low complication rates, including resorption in 6% of cases and extrusion in 3%. The study also showed that rib cartilage improved respiratory function in nasal framework reconstruction cases. The authors suggest that rib cartilage is a reliable autologous graft material for complex nasal surgeries.
