Summary

Copeptin levels are not elevated in depression and show no association with cortisol or ACTH. Aerobic exercise training only decreased copeptin in highly compliant patients, suggesting vasopressin may not play a significant role in depression.

  • Copeptin, ACTH, and cortisol were measured in 111 depressed patients and 57 controls.
  • Copeptin was measured at rest and during exercise.
  • Depressed patients underwent randomization to aerobic training or an exercise control group.

  • Plasma copeptin levels did not differ significantly between depressed subjects and controls.
  • No significant association was found between copeptin and cortisol or ACTH, independent of depression status.
