Summary

The Vasoconstrictive hydrolytic cold dissection (VHCD) method for tonsillectomy is a simple, cost-effective technique. It minimizes blood loss and simplifies dissection, showing a 0.7% post-operative hemorrhage rate in 135 patients.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To present the Vasoconstrictive hydrolytic cold dissection (VHCD) method for tonsillectomy.
  • To evaluate the outcomes of the VHCD method in a cohort of patients.

Main Methods:

  • The VHCD method was described in detail.
  • Outcome measures were collected from 135 patients who underwent the procedure.
  • Data analysis was performed using SPSS 14.

Main Results:

  • 135 patients (107 children, 28 adults/adolescents) were operated on using VHCD.
  • Average surgical time was 15 minutes for children and 12 minutes for adults/adolescents.

Conclusions:

  • Further evaluation via randomized control trial is recommended.
