Area of Science:

  • Materials Science
  • Computational Chemistry
  • Statistical Mechanics

Background:

  • Designing materials with specific properties requires precise control over self-assembly processes.
  • Current methods for designing self-assembling interactions are often complex and difficult to implement experimentally.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To present a systematic method for simplifying isotropic interactions used in targeted self-assembly.
  • To enable the analytical design of interactions for complex lattice formation and functional materials.

Main Methods:

  • Utilized the uncertainty principle to guide the simplification process.
  • Applied a combination of heat kernel smoothing and Gaussian screening to interaction potentials.
  • Performed simplification in both real and reciprocal space.
