Background:

The first Physician Assistant (PA) program in Germany was established in 2005.
As of 2013, three PA programs were operational, with a fourth set to launch in fall 2013.
All approximately 100 graduates to date have had nursing backgrounds.

Observation:

The PA model, involving task shifting from physicians to PAs, is gaining traction among senior physicians and hospital administrators.
The development of a PA movement in Germany is still in its early stages.
Training, deployment, and the evolution of PA programs are actively progressing.

Findings:

The number of PA programs in Germany has steadily increased since 2005.
The PA profession in Germany is primarily recruiting individuals with nursing experience.
